Clubs

Member clubs are at the heart of USA Track & Field. They provide much needed support to athletes in the form of coaching, financial support, and athletic satisfaction. It is with and through the clubs that USATF is able to carry out its mission "to foster sustained competitive excellence, interest, and participation in the sports of track and field, long distance running, and race walking."

The focus and goals of each club are as unique and diverse as the athletes who compete for them. Some clubs focus primarily on elite development, while others specialize in youth or masters programs. Some are solely track and field clubs, while others provide support to only race walkers, throwers, or distance runners. Whatever the case may be, each club is vital to the sport's future in the United States.

Over the past several years, USATF has initiated national club championships in cross country and track and field, and has recently added a marathon relay championship. These national club championships provide clubs a chance to showcase their talents and earn national bragging rights.

UPDATE: As of 2022-12-01, the national office has changed the process of how members request to change clubs (or join a club if currently unattached). All submitted change requests will be processed by the national office and can take several days or weeks. The local association can no longer approve or process your transfer request. Please follow these new instructions.

    NOTES

    • This process is intended for athletes with valid, unexpired USATF memberships that live in Minnesota and/or their legal guardians.
    • If you do not have a valid, unexpired USATF membership, you may need to renew before your affiliation can be changed. The renewal process itself should allow you to change your club affiliation as part of the workflow.
    • If you live outside of Minnesota and registered with an address outside of Minnesota, you may need to request an association transfer before you can request to join a club in Minnesota.
    • Under USATF Regulation 7, an athlete wishing to transfer from one club to another must serve ninety (90) days in 'unattached status' from the date of the last competition in which the athlete represented his or her previous club, subject to certain limited exceptions.
    • All submitted change requests will be processed by the national office and can take several days or weeks. The local association can no longer approve or process your transfer request.

    Important Information for Youth Clubs

The United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) requires that all Olympic National Governing Bodies (NGBs) institute the SafeSport Program in 2015.

All Youth Club Coaches and Volunteers will need to complete the SafeSport Program Requirements before your club’s membership will be approved and activated in the USATF system for 2016 and beyond. There will be no exceptions to this rule.
