Team USA Minnesota Athletes Head to Houston

Minneapolis/St. Paul – Jan. 9, 2018 – Five Team USA Minnesota distance runners will head to Houston this weekend to compete in either the Chevron Houston Marathon or the Aramco Houston Half Marathon on Jan. 14, with both races starting at 7 a.m.  The events are held on a fast and flat course through the streets of downtown Houston.
Tyler Jermann will run in the Chevron Houston Marathon with an eye toward improving on his 2:16:52 personal best in the distance.  Jermann ran the Houston Marathon in 2016 in a time of 2:18 which that year qualified him for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials.
Competing in the Aramco Houston Half Marathon will be Katy Moen, Ryan Rutherford, Kevin Lewis and Danny Docherty.  Moen, Rutherford and Lewis have all previously run in the Houston Half Marathon.  Docherty will be doing the race for the first time.
Moen has a best of 1:14:30 in the half marathon.  Rutherford has posted 1:06:25, Lewis has run 1:06:53, and Docherty has a best of 1:06:57.  The goal for all four runners is to set new personal bests and compete well in a deep field of American and international runners.
In addition, the Houston Marathon Foundation has extended its financial support of Team USA Minnesota for the fifth consecutive year.  Since the Foundation’s inception in 2008, it has provided funding for local youth initiatives, health and wellness programs, community enhancement projects in Houston, and the training and development of U.S. elite runners nation-wide.
“The Foundation’s funding has had great significance for Team USA Minnesota these past few years,” said Chris Lundstrom, Team USA Minnesota coach.  “We certainly appreciate Houston’s continued support as we mark our 17th year as a national training group and work to prepare our team of distance runners for the 2020 Olympic Trials.”
