Masters Set Ten Records At Second Meet


Roisin Willis was the lone youth athlete to set a record at the USATF Minnesota All Ages Indoor Track & Field Meet #2 held January 6th at St. Thomas University. Willis's time of 56.40 eclipsed the Girls 15-16 400m dash record previously held by Brooke Jaworski (57.39, 2017).

Three new all time age group records were established in events that previously had no record. M. Sharon Exel ran 13.47 to set the Women's 75-79 55m dash record. Michael Burns, representing the Prairie Striders, ran 12.06 to set the Men's 75-79 55m hurdle record and Thom Weddle ran 16:30.56 to set the Men's 80-84 3000m record.

Susan Loyd, representing New England's MASS Velocity Track Club, picked up two records at the meet. Loyd's time of 9.59 in the 55m dash broke the Women's 60-64 record previously held by Ann Hegstrom (10.23, 2018). Loyd bettered her own record in the 400m dash with a time of 1:20.54 (1:21.02, 2018).

Lowell Thompson shattered the Men's 75-79 record in the 55m dash with his time of 9.66. Previous record was held by Emil Blaz (11.04, 1994). David Black bettered his own record in the Men's 65-69 55m hurdles with a time of 11.26 (11.61, 2018). Gary Patton, representing the Southern California Track Club, bested the Men's 70-74 3000m record with his time of 11:56.85. Previous record was held by Harry Cottrell of Northwoods - MN/WI (12:19.26, 2017).

Throwers also rewrote some records Sunday. Patricia Nelson established a new Women's 55-59 shot put record with a toss of 10.69m. Previous record was set in 1991 by Anne Cirulnick (9.52m). In the weight throw Jon Dahlin threw 16.73m to better his Men's 35-39 record (16.32m, 2018).

Indoor action resumes Sunday, January 13th with All Ages Indoor Meet #3 at the University of St. Thomas starting at 10:00 AM. Meet information can be found here
